Edwards, S.L.Web-Based Information Searching from the Student's Perspective, A Critical Graduate Capability.
To better understand a critical graduate capability, learning to search web-based information resources, from the student perspective, and use this understanding to explore assessment and curriculum implications, in particular in the first year experience.

Watson, J.; Edwards, S.L.; Nash, R.; & Farrell, M.A.Supporting explorative learning by providing collaborative problem centred e-learning environments: Learning by doing, experiencing, reflecting and collaborating.
The project specifically addresses the following teaching and learning priorities: Work integrated learning (via relevant authentic problems); Generic capabilities (specifically problem solving and teamwork) and Transition (from university to the workplace).

Edwards, S.L.; Partridge, H.; & Meyers, N.Embedding information literacy into student's learning through implementing an online learning tool: the Reflective Online Searching Skills (ROSS) Environment.
This project aimed to (i) significantly enhance the development of information literacy skills for Information Technology (IT) and Science students; and (ii) provide an OLT template (ROSS – Reflective Online Searching Skills) that other academics, irrespective of their discipline, can use to embed information literacy in their own units.
Project Status: Completed (and ongoing further developments)
Impact to date: Current discussions with Faculty of Science and TALSS OLT Team for development of grant proposals (2005/06) for further research via OLT T&L Large and/or ARC Discovery grants.Grant Funding: $7,970.00 QUT Community Service:

Edwards, S.L.A World Wide Web interface and system for The LimbKids Support Assoc. Inc. (For The Families Of Children With Limb Differences.
The LimbKids Support Assoc. Inc is a non-profit, voluntary organization of parents, professionals and interested people concerned with the care of children who have congenital or acquired limb differences. Among the services provided are telephone counseling, hospital visits, general meetings and outings, a video and book library and a quarterly newsletter. Existing membership and library systems were maintained manually, using a computer (located at Strathpine, Brisbane) that had been recently purchased/upgraded.
Project Status: Completed
Impact to date: This project produced a Database, which included membership, publications, and library systems, as a backend database for the front end website. The project also provided training in the use of the computer and in how to update the website and the database.Grant Funding: $9,000.00 FIT T&L Grant
INFOQUEST project
(1997-98)
Middleton, M.; Edwards, S.L.; & Collins, J.InfoQuest was a collaborative project initiated by the Libraries at QUT and Griffith Universities. It involved the development of an Internet Web subject resource gateway to specified subject areas of interest to the respective faculties. The interface provides pointers to freely available or library subscription Internet resources, databases and electronic journals, as well as selected print resources available within the respective libraries.
