Dr. Sylvia Lauretta EDWARDS is Assistant Dean - Teaching and Learning in the Faculty of Information Technology (FIT), at Queensland University of Technology. In this position she lectures in website design, information management, web content management, information resources, library science, and information systems. She has received nine teaching and performance awards. Her research interests include higher education, information literacy and information searching. She has co-developed the Reflective Internet Searching Model and developed a relational model of the experiences of students web-based information searching. Sylvia has been seconded to TALSS (for 30% of her time in 2005, and 40% of her time in 2006) as a Learning & Teaching Consultant to FIT.

Short Biography
Sylvia Lauretta EDWARDS was appointed as a QUT Teaching Fellow, from July 2002 to Jan 2005, in the inaugural round of Teaching Fellowship appointments. She has received numerous academic and teaching awards at both the University and the Faculty level. She was appooiinted as Assistant Dean - Teaching & Learning in the Faculty of Information Technology in Dec 2006. Until recently she was a Senior Lecturer in the School of Information Systems at Queensland University of Technology. In this position she lectures in website design, e-commerce, web content management, information management, information resources, library science, and information systems.
On receiving her undergraduate qualifications in Librarianship from RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) in 1978, Sylvia worked for many years as a Librarian in various university libraries throughout Australia (including Monash University, University of Melbourne, University of Queensland, and RMIT University). She also worked as a Sales Representative for two years for Cottee's Foods (a division of Cadbury Schweppes).
After joining the Faculty of Information Technology, QUT, as an Associate Lecturer in 1995, she was promoted to Lecturer in 1999 and again promoted in 2005 to Senior Lecturer. Sylvia completed a Masters of Information Technology (Research) in January 1999, and she completed her Doctorate in August 2005. Sylvia's research interests include higher education, information literacy and information searching, and specifically web-based information searching. She has co-developed the Reflective Internet Searching Model and developed a relational model of the experiences of students web-based information searching. She has also been the recipant of 2 best paper awards for her conference research presentations.
Professionally she has been an active executive committee member for State and National library associations, including two years as Vice President and Webmaster for the Queensland Library Promotions Council, and a member of the Queensland State Council of ALIA (Australian Library and Information Association).
Sylvia is also regularly invited to speak or present papers at State and National Conferences on website design. Her considerable consultancy work includes giving advice on web-site design and providing Internet seminars and training for organisations such as MTIA (Metal Trades Industry Assoc.); Women’s Chiefs of Enterprise International - Qld Division; Safety in the Market (TradersNet); Powerlink; Qld. Local Government & Planning Department; and AusIndustry. She has previously worked as an Information Consultant and Internet trainer for University of Queensland Pathways and MONINFO (Monash University Information Service).
